Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill (2533 Pte. H. W. Sykes. Yorkshire Regt.) number officially corrected, extremely fine £160-£200
W. Sykes attested for the Princess of Wales’s Own (Yorkshire Regiment) in 1890 and served with the 2nd Battalion in Burma, and then, having been recalled from the Reserve, with the 1st Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War from 24 November 1899. He died of enteric fever at Pretoria on 7 July 1900.
The medal roll possibly indicates entitlement to the additional clasp for Driefontein, but this does not appear to have ever been affixed.
