D.C.M. London Gazette 17 December 1914: 4656 Acting Sergeant-Trumpeter A. Stone, 12th Lancers.
‘For coolness, gallantry, and exceptionally good work during the operations of 23 October to 4 November near Messines.’
Arthur Stone attested for the 12th Lancers and served with them as a Sergeant Trumpeter during the Great War on the Western Front from 15 August 1914, being awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal before the year’s end. Subsequently transferring to the Royal Irish Fusiliers with the rank of Warrant Officer Class I, he saw further service post-War in Mesopotamia (entitled to a 1914 Star trio and a General Service Medal with clasps for Iraq and N.W. Persia.)
