M.C., London Gazette, 22 March 1918. 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. The battery was shelled and a gun-pit was set on fire with it's ammunition. He immediately entered the gun-pit with an N.C.O. and subdued the fire, when a heavy shell buried the gun and again set fire to the pit. The fire was again extinguished and the gun got ready for the attack at the appointed hour. The whole work was carried out under heavy fire and his prompt action undoubtedly saved a difficult situation.'
