A Great War M.M. group for St. Eloi awarded to Lieutenant K.C. McIntyre, 24th Canadian Infantry

MILITARY MEDAL, G.V.R. (65696 Sjt., 24/Can. l.B.); 1914-15 STAR (Sjt., 24/Can. Inf.); BRITISH WAR AND VICTORY MEDALS (Lieut.) light contact marks, very fine

The following citation was extracted from the regimental war diaries: 'At St. Eloi 10th April 1916, an isolated trench in the front line was heavily shelled resulting in numerous casualties. In spite of intense shelling and under extremely trying conditions, Sgt. McIntyre and Pte. Young stayed in the trench and with much work got the wounded men released from the debris, dressed them and carried those still living to the aid post, under continuous fire from the enemy. Sgt. McIntyre since September 1915 has continually shown excellent soldierly qualities, being cheerful under trying conditions, cool and steady under fire, and an example of gallantry and devotion to duty to the men under his command.'
