Walter Kelly, a labourer from Southampton, enlisted into the 21st Lancers on 2 January, 1893, and served with them in the Expedition to Khartoum in 1898. He was present at Omdurman with 'A' squadron. Kelly transferred to the 16th Lancers in September, 1899, being promoted Corporal in 1902 and Sergeant in 1907. He was awarded the long service medal in 1911 and was discharged two years later. Sold with copy discharge papers, medal verification and a group photograph which includes the recipient wearing his medals.
