Frederick Martinus Nagel served as a Burger in the Standerton Commando during the Anglo-Boer war. He was captured during a British night raid at Oshoek in the Eastrern Transvaal on 4 December 1901, and sent to India as a prisoner of war. During the Great War he was a lieutenant inn the Bethal Commando and saw service in German South West Africa.
