The 1940 Issue was the first series of notes for Malaya, issued by the Board of Commissioners of Currency, which replaced the Government of the Straits Settlements dollar. The issue consisted of green $1 and blue $5 and a purple $10. Some of the $1 and $5 denomination notes were reportedly lost when the captured and sunk by the Germans enroute from London to the Malay States. The notes were reissued in different colours and released after the war.
