John Sanders Bevan was born in the Parish of Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, on 9 November 1871, and was a painter by trade before joining the Metropolitan Police on 27 July 1896, aged 24. He was attached to S Division throughout his service and resigned from the Force on 2 October 1922.
