George Austin attested for the 17th Lancers and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 8 November 1914. He was awarded his Military Medal, one of approximately 21 Military Medals awarded to the 17th Lancers for the entire Great War, as part of a batch awarded for operations on the Western Front during August 1918, one of 12 M.M.s. awarded to the Regiment for services in connection with the Allied offensive on the Western Front during August 1918.

Note: The recipient’s M.M. is known to exist.
