Richard Percival Bailey was born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, in 1866 and attested for the 6th Dragoon Guards at Canterbury on 15 August 1885. He transferred to the Yorkshire Hussars on 7 July 1899, and was appointed Quartermaster, with the honorary rank of lieutenant, on 9 October 1914. He died in York on 30 May 1915, and is buried under a C.W.G.C. headstone in Manchester Southern Cemetery. He was not entitled to any Great War medals, and his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal is his sole medallic entitlement.
