This coin was recognised as the finder as being ‘possibly irregular’, a position supported by the crude style of the reverse lettering. However, the reverse die used to strike the present coin was also used to produce a coin in Berlin Münzkabinett, where it paired with an obverse die of perfectly ordinary style. Further, XRF analysis suggested that the metallurgic composition of our coin is generally consistent with other, legitimate, coins of this period.
