Herbert Giles attested for the Somerset Light Infantry and served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 21 August 1914. He later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps and was renumbered 22721.

Sold with a damaged postcard photograph, believed to be of the recipient in later life.
