TURKISH MEDAL FOR THE DEFENCE OF KARS 1854, silver with rings for suspension, good very fine and scarce
Awarded for the defence of the Turkish garrison at Kars when beseiged by a force of 50,000 Russians. The defence was organised by General W. F. Williams who was created Sir William Williams of Kars, Baronet. The Victoria Cross was awarded to Lieut. C. C. Teesdale, Royal Artillery for his gallantry during the siege.
