George W. Hayford served during the Second Boer War with the Woolwich Company, Volunteer Medical Staff Corps at the Rhodesian Field Force Hospital. He re-engaged for service with the Royal Army Medical Corps and served on the Western Front from 15 November 1914. Hayford was discharged on 10 March 1917.
