John Venters was born un Wemyss, Fife, in 1879 and attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps at Edinburgh on 26 December 1901. He served in South Africa during the Boer War from 22 February to 13 September 1902, and was discharged on 16 September 1902, after 265 days’ service.
