A 19th century gold memorial ring, with recessed black enamel detail and gold lettering to the exterior ‘IN ME MO RY OF’ with symmetrically carved scrolled foliate motifs between, the interior engraved in italics “Charles Lord Tenterden died 4 Nov, 1832 aged 70”, hallmarked for 18ct gold, date letter for 1832, ring size O. £400-£600

This ring was found by a metal detectorist.

The ring is in memory of Charles Abbott, 1st Baron Tenterden PC (1762-1832). A barrister and judge, he served as Lord Chief Justice of the King’s Bench between 1818 and 1832. He was appointed to the peerage in 1827.
