SOUTH AFRICA 1877-9, 1 clasp, 1879 (29/1110 Pte. T. Wilson, 58th Foot), toned, extremely fine

Private T. Wilson was killed in action at Laing's Nek on 28th January, 1881. The 58th suffered very heavily in this action and prompted Sir George Colley to write in his despatch 'Of the conduct of the 58th Regiment during this trying day I cannot speak in too high terms.' The regiment lost 79 killed or died of wounds and 96 wounded, and Lieutenant Hill was awarded the Victoria Cross.
