Richard Brooks was born at St Pancras, Middlesex, in November 1825. He enlisted into the 44th Regiment, whilst still eight months under age, on 9 March 1843. He served throughout the Crimean and China campaigns and was promoted to Corporal in China on 1 February 1860. He received the L.S. & G.C. Medal without Gratuity and was discharged after 21 years service on 30 May 1865. Sold with copy service and discharge papers.
