Captain S.G. Torrance, 58th Canadian Infantry (2nd Central Ontario Regiment) was the son of Forbes and Alice Mary Torrance and descended from a well known Canadian family. His elder brother Donald was killed in 1916 and Samuel being wounded in 1916, returned to the U.K. and, on recovery, was commissioned. His mother and sister came to England to offer their services to the Canadian Red Cross. Captain Torrance enlisted in 1914 as a private in the machine gun section and arrived in May 1915. He saw much service being wounded and admitted to hospital 10 October 1916 with head and neck wounds. He was killed in action on 13 November 1917 when an intense German bombardment preceded a German attack around Passchendaele. Sold with extensive additional research.
