M.M. London Gazette 5 November 1942. The recommendation states: ‘At Himeimat on the morning of 31 August 1942, this N.C.O. was No.1. of a six pounder anti-tank gun. He was told to engage the enemy with two rounds only from the first position, as it appeared that it was being outflanked. From his own observation however, Sergeant Harraway saw that he could hold on for longer. He engaged the tanks for ten minutes, during which time one tank was hit, and the crew baled out. He only withdrew after his portee was hit and he himself wounded. He continued to command his gun for the next hour, during which time two further tanks were hit. Sergeant Harraway has set an outstanding example of initiative and courage in spite of being wounded.
