Edward William Pye, a native of Stepney, London, enlisted into the King’s Royal Rifle Corps on 12 March 1898, at the age of 18. After service in South Africa during the Boer War, he was discharged from the army on 29 March 1902. Pye re-enlisted on 28 March 1912, joining the 10th London Regiment. During the Great War he saw service at Gallipoli, receiving a gunshot wound to his neck on 15 August 1915. He was finally discharged on 23 February 1917.
