Four officers and 89 Marines were present at Abu Klea in the Guards Camel Regiment.
John Marks was born at Mortonhampstead, Devonshire, on 12 June 1858. He enlisted into the Royal Marines on 1 September 1878, being invalided out on 8 December 1885. He subsequently joined the Royal Navy as a Stoker on 8 February 1888, serving aboard various ships until his final discharge on 21 November 1900. Sold with confirmation and two pages of copied service papers.
