Sea Gallantry Medal (Foreign Services), V.R., small silver medal, ‘For Gallantry and Humanity’ (S. Battershell, 24th November 1888) good very fine £180-220
On 24 November 1888 the Invicta was disabled during a storm in the North Sea. The crew of seven were taken off in one hour, in two trips by a boat from the German vessel Adamant in very bad weather and at extreme risk. One gold and four silver Sea Gallantry Medals were awarded for this rescue.
