Sold with a photostat copy of a letter from the Regional Commissioners, London Civil Defence Region, dated 9 June 1942, advising him of the award of his B.E.M. which states ‘We have drawn the attention of the Minister of Home Security to your services as Senior Dispatch Rider attached to the Whitefriars Fire Station. You have attended most of the large fires and conflagrations in Central London, and your cool efficiency and courage while maintaining communications, often in conditions of great danger, have set a fine example to the Dispatch Riders in your charge.’
