Thomas Neville was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in July 1851.

He entered the Royal Navy as a Landsman aboard H.M.S. Wellesley in May 1827 and gained advancement to Able Seaman with the best possible speed (i.e. three years). Joining the Ganges in November 1838, he participated in the Syria operations of 1840, and in August 1851, having been appointed Captain of the Pinnace in the Meander, he was pensioned ashore. In May 1852, however, he was re-employed as a ‘Pensioner’, back in his old rate of Able Seaman, in the St. George, and in her served in the Baltic operations. Neville was finally discharged in January 1860, having amassed over 33 years with the Service.
