James Partridge was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in February 1860.
He was born in Kingsbridge, Devon and enlisted in the Royal Marines in April 1837, aged 20 years. Advanced to Corporal in June 1841, he went on to witness active service in H.M.S. Philomel in the River Plate and at the taking of the Forts of Obligado in November 1845, the Marines being landed to storm the Argentine batteries - see Naval Medals 1793-1856, by Douglas-Morris, for further details. Gaining further advancement to Sergeant in June 1846 and to Colour-Sergeant in March 1854, Partridge was discharged in February 1860.
