Lindsay FitzMaurice was educated at London University, taking a commission from The University O.T.C. into the Somerset Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 18 November 1916, at the Battle of the Ancre, having previously been wounded during the Battle of the Somme, and is buried at Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel, Somme, France.
