Lieutenant Herbert Edward Corner attested at Reading, 12 January, 1900, for service in South Africa with the 39th Company (Berkshire) Imperial Yeomanry. He was promoted Lieutenant on 16 January, 1902 and retired in November of that year. He re-enlisted as temporary Second Lieutenant, 4th Reserved Regiment of Cavalry, on 25 December, 1914, and was promoted Lieutenant, attached to the Gold Coast Regiment, West African Fontier Force, 30 June 1915. He served in Kamerun, West Africa and died of wounds there on 30 October, 1917.
