E. T. Crawley was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant, Royal Pioneer Corps, 9 September 1942; Lieutenant and Hon. Captain, 9 September 1943; Temp. Captain, 18 December 1944. He served during the Mau Mau rebellion as Acting Superintendent of Police.
