A rare dated reverse Q.S.A. to Private J. Treston, Lord Strathcona's Horse, a Cow Boy by profession who was severely wounded during the Boer War

John Treston was born in 1869 in St. Francis Xavier, Manitoba, and spent his early life working as a Cow Boy. He enlisted in Lord Strathcona's Horse at Winnipeg on 9 February 1900, proceeding with that regiment to South Africa the following month. He was severely wounded, in the left shoulder and right hand, near Frederickstad on 10 November 1900. On 20 January 1901 the regiment re-embarked for Canada, via England where on 15 February they had the honour to receive a Colour from King Edward VII, who also presented them with their medals for South Africa. Treston earned his last two clasps with the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles. Sold with copy service papers. Approximately 50 medals with the dated reverse were issued, these mostly to men of Lord Strathcona's Horse.
