The Society’s 2nd type medal was awarded for the period 1867 - 74.
‘To Captain Evans, S.S. “Prince of Wales”, a Silver Medal and Vote of Thanks, and to three of his crew, viz., Owen Parry, William Williams and Hugh Evans, £2 each, for saving the crew of the “Lady Augusta” which foundered in a gale on the 23rd December, near West Hoyle. In the first place, Captain Evans used every praiseworthy endeavour to save the vessel, but, when it was clearly impossible, the three men, at considerable peril, went in a small boat and saved the crew just as their vessel was sinking.’ (31st Annual Report).
The medal to Captain William Evans of the S.S. Prince of Wales was one of 10 silver medals awarded for the year 1870.
