A ‘Boer War’ period Vesta Case, silver, hallmarked London 1893, privately engraved to one side ‘In memoriam C. Sitwell. Killed on Harts Hill 23rd. Feb. 1900.’, and the other side ‘C. D. Cooper. Boer War 1899, 1900, 1901, 1902.’, minor knock to top of lid, closes tightly, in generally good condition £30-£40

Claude George Henry Sitwell, D.S.O., was killed in action in the operations on the Upper Tugela on 23-24 February 1900 whilst serving as Lieutenant-Colonel in the 2nd Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers.

Charles Duncan Cooper, C.B., served with distinction during the Boer War as Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Described as a ‘resolute, capable commander’, he was made Colonel of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers on 13 March 1910. His medals were sold in these rooms in February 2023.
