William Wilson was a weaver from Newcastle, Northumberland, who volunteered for the 43rd Foot from the 2nd West York Militia on 14 April 1809. He served in the Walcheren Expedition, and afterwards in Portugal, initially with the 2nd Battalion, but transferred to the 1st Battalion in June 1811. He was discharged by order of the Commander-in-Chief and paid up to 24 March 1816.
