New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated 1863-1866 (1326 Jas. Cody, 2nd Bn. 18th Ryl. Irish Regt.) edge nicks and minor contact marks, very fine £350-400

James Cody was born in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny and originally enlisted in the 20th Foot in September 1859, aged 19 years. Transferring to the 18th Foot in March of the following year, he went on to serve for 21 years with the Colours, six of them in New Zealand - in addition to several months in Australia - and another five years in India 1875-60. He was finally discharged in January 1881, but with several entries in the regimental defaulter’s book does not appear to have qualified for the L.S. & G.C. Medal.
