James Donaldson was born in the Parish of Kircaldy, Fife, and enlisted for the 42nd Regiment at Perth on 4 July 1849. During his 20 years service with the regiment he was entered no less than 48 times in the regimental defaulters book and was five times tried by Courts Martial. He was also entitled to the Crimea medal with 2 clasps. Sold with copy discharge papers.
