Kabul to Kandahar Star 1880 (Major W. B. Aislabie, 3rd Sikh Infantry), correction to ‘W’, good very fine £200-240

William Benjamin Aislabie entered the Indian Army as an Ensign in December 1859 and was promoted to Lieutenant in November 1861; Captain in June 1869; Major in December 1879 and attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in December 1885.

He served with the 3rd Sikh Infantry throughout the Umbeyla Campaign of 1863, including the actions of 15/16 December (Medal and clasp). With the 3rd Sikhs he served in the Hazara Campaign of 1868, including the expedition against the tribes on the Black Mountain (Clasp); and also in the Jowaki Expedition of 1877-78 (Clasp).

In the Afghan War, he took part in the operations in the Shutargarden Pass; the operations around Kabul, December 1879, including the affair on the Asmai Heights (twice mentioned in despatches); took part in the march from Kabul to Kandahar and was present at the battle of Kandahar (Mentioned in despatches, Medal with two clasps and Bronze Star).

Lieutenant-Colonel Aislabie retired from the Army in 1889.
