China 1900, 1 clasp, Relief of Pekin (4947 Pte. J. Morton, 2nd Rl. Welsh Fus.) suspension claw with traces of repair, very fine £350-400

John Morton, who was born near Swansea, originally enlisted in the 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards in July 1894, aged 23 years. In April 1896, however, he transferred to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, with whom he served in the occupation of Crete in 1898 and in the Boxer Rebellion in 1900, when he was present in the relief of Pekin operations. He was discharged in Jersey as unfit for further service in August 1901.
