The recommendation states: ‘On 21/22 Jan 45 at Ngapyin the battalion area came under heavy and accurate shell fire which inflicted numerous casualties amongst both personnel and mules and caused considerable disorder. This NCO was in charge of the RAP in the absence of the MO who was out on a column. Throughout the shelling he organized his stretcher parties and himself tended the wounded with the utmost coolness and disregard for his own safety. He refused to take cover until definitely ordered to do so. The following day further heavy shelling took place in the battalion area again inflicting casualties amongst personnel and animals. This NCO during this period again displayed the greatest initiative and courage in organizing stretcher parties and the collection and evacuation of wounded. His general bearing and unflagging energy under fire was a fine example of devotion to duty and much impressed the doctors of the ADS who requested that it should not pass unnoticed. Throughout the period under review his conduct and ability has been outstanding and on many occasions in the absence of the MO he has carried on in a tireless and outstanding manner.’
