A mounted group of four miniature dress medals awarded to a Russian Officer who served in the suppression of the Polish Insurrection of 1831

Order of St. Vladimir, 12 x 12mm., gold and enamel; Order of St. Anne, 12 x 12mm., gold and enamel; Medal for the Taking of Warsaw 1831, 12mm., silver; Order of ‘Virtuti Militari’, 12 x 12mm., gold and enamel, all uniface, suspended from a silver and gold sabre, with gold pin-fitting, the ‘blade’ bearing the enamelled inscription (in cyrillic) ‘For Bravery’, good very fine, rare £2000-2500

As part of the Russian awards system of the time, special side arm decorations for bravery could be awarded to officers, as reflected in this mounting arrangement.
