Pair: Second Lieutenant R. Wright, Royal Garrison Artillery
British War and Victory Medals (2. Lieut.) very fine (2) £80-100
At least two officers of this name and rank are known to exist, the other being killed whilst serving with the Royal Irish Rifles. The above medals are thought to have belonged to Second Lieutenant Richard Wright, who was awarded a Military Cross for gallantry whilst serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery.
M.C. London Gazette 26 July 1918 ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty whilst in command of the forward section of his battery all day under intense high explosive and gas bombardment. Fighting his guns until the enemy were within 400 yards he then rescued the breech blocks from them and organised a rifle party to assist the infantry.’
