John Stevens Guille was commissioned into the 99th Foot on 1 May 1878. He served with the regiment throughout the Zulu War of 1879 and was present at the engagement at Gingindhlovu. Promoted to Lieutenant on 28 August 1879, he was listed in the 1884 Army List as an Interpreter and was appointed Adjutant in July 1884. Last appears as a Lieutenant in the 99th (Wiltshire Regiment) in 1886.
