Instituted in 1933 and awarded to native personnel of the Sudan Defence Force and Police for minor campaigns in the Sudan, post-1933. Also awarded for action against the Italian forces in Southern Sudan, June 1940-November 1941. Approximately 9,000 medals issued. Sold with two photographs of Stephen Seymour Butler, General Officer Commanding, S.D.F., presenting medals to Sudanese soldiers.
