Albert Ross was born in Doncaster, Yorkshire, on 15 May 1885. A Driver Mechanic by occupation, he enlisted into the R.N.A.S. as an Air Mechanic 1st Class (E) on 1 February 1915. Based on Pembroke III and President II, he served at Milton, Coventry and Pembroke. He was advanced to Leading Mechanic on 1 August 1915 and to Petty Officer Mechanic on 1 August 1916. He was later taken into the R.A.F. Sold with copied service paper.
