Agricultural & Commercial Bank of Ireland, One Pound, 10 June 1838, no. 44150, Roscrea, on fully watermarked paper, signature of Wm. Davis. Left edge trimmed, otherwise good very fine to about extremely fine, very rare; the first example ever to be offered at public auction (£1,500-2,500)

Illustrated on the front cover. The Agricultural & Commercial Bank of Ireland opened for business on 1 November 1834 and was soon competing aggressively against the National Bank as each sought to expand their network of branches. A loss of confidence in the new bank led to temporary closure in November 1836 and although the business was quickly restarted, payment was stopped for a second and final time in 1841
