British historical medals, Ark Badge or Naval Reward, c. 1615, a cast oval lead badge with a bronze wash, unsigned [probably by N. Hilliard], bust of James I three-quarters right, wearing hat decorated with ostrich plumes and a slashed doublet decorated with diamond buttons and jewels on mounts, rev. Ark upon the sea, smoke emitting from its chimney, bright rays bursting from clouds, above, 51 x 42mm, 25.34g (MI I, 233/96; Strong 233). A late cast, very fine (£90-120)
