Michael Tiernan was born in the Parish of Meiss, near Castle Bar, Co. Mayo. He served in the 87th Foot from 5 October 1802 but at some stage was transferred to the 5th Royal Veteran Battalion, from which he was discharged on 5 August 1806. He re-enlisted on the following day for the 60th Foot at Guernsey and served with the 3rd Battalion at Martinique. McTiernan spent much of his service in the West Indies, from February 1807 to June 1816, and again from June 1821 to October 1826. He was discharged at Demerara in July 1826, due to general debility and asthma, and returned to England for his final discharge on 24 October 1826. Sold with copy discharge papers.
