John Ames was born at Clackton, Essex, and enlisted into the Grenadier Guards at Colchester on 25 October 1803, aged 21, for unlimited service. He had previous service with the Royal Artillery from June 1799 to April 1802. He was discharged on 8 February 1826 due to length of service and intended to reside at Oxford. Sold with copy discharge papers.
