Montague Bertie Gosset Jackson was born on 17 January 1858. Commissioned a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in October 1877, he served in Ceylon, May 1878-June 1882. Promoted to Captain in February 1886, he was attached to the Egyptian Army, September 1884-December 1895, serving in the Sudan, 1884-86 and 1888. For his services with the Egyptian Army he was awarded the Orders of Osmania 4th Class and Medjidie 4th Class. He was promoted to Major in February 1896. During the Boer War he served on the Staff as D.A.A.G., February 1900-May 1903, and was also Commandant at Tarkastad. Promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in February 1904 and Colonel in February 1907, he was placed on Retirement Pay on 15 February 1909. Sold with two Turkish documents mounted on card and five photographs mounted on card.
