Auction Catalogue
Cedulas (254), all 1919-22, a collection, including Ponte de Abrantes, 2 Centavos (Almeida 38), Mozambique, 5 Centavos in red (cf. Almeida 2636), and 32 other notes classified as rare by Almeida [254]. Minimal duplication; mostly about very fine to uncirculated (£1,000-1,500)
Cedula was the term adopted in Portugal for the issue of emergency small denomination paper money. Low value coinage disappeared from circulation after 1917 and, as in several other European countries the vacuum was filled by paper issued by local councils, business, commercial associations and hospitals
