Walter Andrew Angus was born in St. Johns Wood, London on 30 November 1879. A Clerk by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class in May 1899. He served on the 2nd class cruiser Doris during October 1900-May 1901 and was promoted to Stoker in February 1901. Serving during the Boer War he qualified for the Queen’s medal with clasp for Cape Colony. He attained the rank of Stoker 1st Class in July 1906 when serving on the Leander. He was discharged to shore in May 1911 and joined the Royal Fleet Reserve. Recalled for service with the outbreak of the Great War, he was posted to the Hood Battalion Royal Naval Division. Serving in Gallipoli, he died of wounds on 27 May 1915 and was buried in the Lancashire Landing Cemetery. A duplicate Q.S.A. was sent to his mother in February 1916; his 1914 Star was sent to his sister, Mrs E. Anderson, on 29 March 1922. The clasp to 1914 Star not confirmed.
